This tour was done through Andante Travels, a company based in the UK which specializes in archaeological tours. It took place during September and October of 2017. We visited the ruins of Pompeii and the surrounding areas, including:

Cuma

Paestum

Pompeii

The Naples Archaeological Museum

Stabiae

Herculaneum

Vesuvius

We were led on this tour by Tony Wilmott, a British archaeologist with a wealth of knowledge and excavating experience. We were also led by our tour manager Sirah Bogani, a local resident with extensive knowledge of the area, its language, and its customs who coordinated the logistics and made sure we were all comfortable. Halfway though the tour we were joined by Dot Smith, Andante’s photographer, who accompanied us and took photos for next year’s catalog. At certain sites (including Pompeii and Herculaneum) we were also accompanied by local experts, people who knew that specific location very well and could answer any questions we had.

The trip lasted 8 days and included about 20 people, plus our guides. As always on Andante tours we were well-fed and housed in very comfortable accommodations. Even though we did a lot of walking and climbing during the day, there was always time to relax in the evening and prepare for a group dinner.

I plan to take at least 1 tour a year with Andante, they offer trips to many interesting sites around the world and always take such good care of us. Check back for more pictures from this and future trips!
